Borra Caves and Thotlakonda Visakhapatnam Andhra Pradesh

Borra Caves, located in the Ananthagiri Hills of the Araku Valley, are among India's deepest limestone caves, extending up to 80 meters in depth. Discovered in 1807 by British geologist William King George, these caves are known for their striking stalactite and stalagmite formations. Natural shapes resembling Shiva Lingams, animals, and human-like figures add to the cave’s mystical allure. The underground natural lighting enhances the beauty of these formations, making it a major attraction for tourists and photographers. Thotlakonda is an ancient Buddhist monastery complex, flourishing between 3rd century BCE and 3rd century CE. Located atop a hill overlooking the Bay of Bengal, the site was a hub for Hinayana Buddhism, with several stupas, viharas, and chaityas discovered through excavations. The location was historically significant due to maritime trade and religious exchanges with Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia.
