About the Temple

Basistha Temple is an ancient Hindu pilgrimage site located in Guwahati, Assam. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is believed to be built at the site where Sage Vashistha (Basistha) meditated in ancient times. The present temple structure was constructed in the 18th century by Ahom King Rajeswar Singha, and is located at the scenic base of the Garbhanga Forest Reserve.

The temple is constructed in Nilachal style architecture, known for its ornate domes and stone carvings.

Situated beside the Basistha River, a confluence of three mythological rivers—Sandhya, Lalita, and Kanta.

Contains a natural Swayambhu Shivalinga, making it highly revered among devotees.
