About the Temple

Ajgaivinath Temple, also known as Gaibinath Mahadev Mandir, is a revered Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is situated on the banks of the holy river Ganga at Sultanganj in Bhagalpur district, Bihar. The temple holds immense spiritual significance, especially for Kanwariyas during the Shravan month.

Description

The temple is believed to be more than 1,000 years old.

It is built on a rock in the middle of the Ganga River.

The sanctum houses a naturally occurring Shivlinga, and the name “Ajgaivinath” comes from ‘Aj’ (Goat), ‘Gai’ (Cow), and ‘Nath’ (Lord), referencing an ancient legend of Shiva.

Devotees believe that wishes come true here, and it's especially important for those performing Kanwar Yatra to Baidyanath Dham.

Speciality

It is the starting point for the Kanwar Yatra to Deoghar (Baidyanath Jyotirlinga).

The temple is one of the few where Ganga flows northward (Uttarvahini Ganga), making it auspicious.

Open throughout the year, but it sees a massive gathering during Shravan (July-August).
