Ballaleshwar Temple – Maharashtra

Ballaleshwar Temple, located in the serene village of Pali in Raigad district of Maharashtra, is one of the revered Ashtavinayak temples dedicated to Lord Ganesha. What sets this temple apart is its unique association with the devotee Ballal, after whom the deity here is named, making it the only Ganesha temple in India where the Lord is worshipped in his devotee’s name. Temple About

Ballaleshwar is one of the Ashtavinayak temples of Lord Ganesha and is the only temple among the eight where the deity is known by his devotee’s name Ballal. The temple has historical and mythological significance, particularly from the era of the Puranas.

Temple Description

The temple is built in a unique shape resembling the letter “Shri” in the Devanagari script. Constructed from stone and lead to prevent termite attacks, it faces east so that the morning sun rays fall directly on the idol. The idol of Lord Ganesha is seated on a stone throne, with his consorts Riddhi and Siddhi.

Temple Specialty

It is the only temple where Lord Ganesha is worshipped in the name of his devotee Ballal.

Part of the sacred Ashtavinayak pilgrimage circuit.

The idol is self-manifested (Swayambhu) and was believed to be consecrated by Ballal himself.

The temple complex is designed to allow sun rays to fall directly on the idol during specific times of the year.
