Branch name
Reason for loss
Attach Required Documents
Self-attested copy of valid ID proof (like Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, etc.)
A copy of the police complaint (if available or requested)
Visit the Bank Branch
Go to the home branch of your account and submit the application and documents.
You may need to fill out a form at the branch.
Collect New Passbook
The new passbook is usually issued on the same day or within a few days.
Bank-Specific Notes:
SBI: Requires a written application; some branches insist on a police complaint.
HDFC/ICICI/Kotak: May also allow requests via net banking/mobile app or customer service call, but branch visit is usually needed for passbook.
Losing a bank passbook is not uncommon, and most Indian banks have a simple and secure process to issue a duplicate. Make sure to keep a record of your application and get the new passbook updated regularly. Always inform your bank promptly in case of such loss to prevent any unauthorized activity on your account.
