About the Temple

Shri Parshvanath Digambar Jain Temple, located in Humcha (Hombuja), Karnataka, is one of the most revered Jain pilgrimage sites, with a history spanning over 1,400 years. The temple was established by Jinadattaraya, a devoted follower of Goddess Padmavati, making it a center of spiritual and historical significance. Description:

Dating back to the 7th century CE, the Humcha temple complex was established during the reign of the Santara dynasty. The main temple dedicated to Lord Parshvanath is an ancient structure reflecting traditional temple architecture with a Navaranga, Sukanasi, and Garbagriha. Within the complex, there are several other shrines, including the prominent Padmavathi Basadi and the Panchakuta Basadi, built in the later Chalukyan style. The temple houses various ancient idols, inscriptions, and a significant Jain Mutt (monastery) which has historically served as a prominent seat of the Bhattaraka lineage. The architecture showcases intricate carvings and reflects the artistic heritage of the region. The complex is set amidst a serene environment, adding to its spiritual ambiance.

Temple Speciality

The temple showcases traditional Jain architecture, including the Navaranga, Sukanasi, and Garbhagriha.

Inside the Navaranga, two black stone idols of Lord Parshvanatha are present:

One in Kayotsarga posture (standing).

One in Padmasana (seated).

The main deity is a 4-foot-high idol of Lord Parshvanatha in Padmasana, flanked by attendants.

A unique idol depicting two figures troubling Lord Parshvanatha during meditation, later seen bowing at his feet, symbolizes the power of spiritual transformation.
